For the second instalment of my prom makeup series, I'm going for a really soft romantic eye. The Urban Decay Naked 3 palette screams romantic so that's what I'll be using for the eyes.
As usual, I'm going to begin by priming my eyes with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. Using a crease brush, take the shade 'Limit' from the Naked 3 Palette and blend this into the crease. You don't need to be precise with this because it's going to be our transition shade. Next, take 'Nooner' on the same brush and buff this into the crease. This is really going to define the crease and shape the eye. Since this is a very soft makeup look, I didn't make it too intense, I used just enough to add definition. You can then add 'Trick' all over the lid using a flat brush. This will create a beautiful sheen to the lid.
To make things just a little smokey, I added a bit of 'Liar' and 'Mugshot' to the outer V, blending as I build up the colour. You really want to take your time with blending. I spent a good 5 minutes with my crease brush making sure everything was blown out. You can leave the outer V there but I decided to go in with 'Factory' on a small brush and focus a very small amount of this on the very outer edge. You don't want to go in too heavy at first because this shade is very pigmented. Taking the same crease brush, blend the colour into the crease.
Going back to the lid I added more 'Trick' using the same flat brush. To make the eyes really stand out, I finished it off by adding some the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in 'Rose Gold' to the inner third of the lid. This creates the most beautiful soft rose effect on the eye. Since this is a very soft makeup look, for liner I lined my eyes using a black liquid liner very close to the lash line. You don't really want a thick line so try and get it as close to the roots of the lash as you can. To add a bit of sparkle and to soften the liner, I went over it with 'Blackheart' from the Naked 3 palette. This shade is perfect for liner because the glitter is going to catch the light in a very subtle way.
I then went in with a clean blending brush and blended out any harsh lines. To finish off the eyes, I curled my lashes add my favourite mascara combination of the moment; Maxfactor False Lash Effect and L'oreal Telescopic. I didn't add falsies but you could. I think individual lashes focused on the outer corners of each eye would look amazing. It would create a really pretty fluttery effect.
For the base, you want to keep it soft and natural to tie in with the romantic theme. I used my fail-safe Silk Creme Foundation but you can use anything you want. Just make sure that your foundation doesn't have SPF because in flash you will look like Caspar the ghost! For blush I used a combination of by Sleek Blush in Pinktini' and the Revlon Highlighting Palette in 'Bronze Glow'. I mainly stuck to pink toned products which you probably noticed because they tend to look the most romantic. I did do a little bit of contouring but I wouldn't go too heavy with it because for this theme, I think lightly enhancing your features looks best.
In terms of lips, you can't beat a good nude lip gloss. I chose Tanya Burr's Lipgloss in 'Chic' because it's my perfect nude and quite frankly I am obsessed with it! It's not too nude where it looks like you painted concealer on your lips but it doesn't give off a strong colour either. I would say it has a peachy lean to it with seems to work well with a lot of complexions.
That's it really- it's quite a simple makeup look but that's what I love about it. The most important thing to keep in mind when doing a romantic makeup look is to keep it soft and well blended. Remember, you can always add more but it's harder to take it away!
