Concealer Smackdown (Drugstore and High End)

I am loving concealer at the moment. I think it's such an underrated product because most people look for coverage from their foundation. Technically, foundation is meant to even everything out, whereas concealer is meant to cover. I'm doing a little concealer smackdown with all of the concealers I have.

Mac Studio Finish:

This is the only concealer I have in a cream compact form. It's quite a stiff waxy formula, but it does soften when applied with fingers. I prefer to use this on any blemishes for precise spot concealing because it's high coverage and it's waxiness actually works really well for that. I'm not a fan of it for under the eyes. All though it does cover dark circles, it creases like you wouldn't believe. I have the shade NW35 which matches me well, but it does have a strong orange undertone, more so when applied under the eyes.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer:

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer was my first 'proper' liquid concealer and it is very good. As the name would suggest, it's creamy and works well for my dry skin. It also has brilliant coverage without being cakey or heavy. However, it wasn't until I tried the next concealer that I realised that whilst this is great, there's something better out there.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer:

In the space of a few weeks, I've become utterly obsessed with this concealer. It's so gorgeous on the skin. Full coverage, lightweight and is suitable for everything. The formula is a lot wetter than the NARS one, but I prefer it because it's easier to blend and you can layer it up better. I also find it sits better on my dry dehydrated skin. The lasting power is great too.

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer:

I think this is my least favourite because it doesn't really do much in terms of brightening up my under eye area. The formula is beautifully light and silky, but since it doesn't do anything, I haven't got much else to say. I do seem to be the only one who doesn't like this concealer though so maybe you'll have better luck with it.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer:

I  have very mixed thoughts on this one. Again, I'm not blown away but it, but it's not bad. The texture is so lovely and works wonderfully for under the eyes. The shade doesn't match me, but since I only use this for the under eye area, it doesn't matter too much. In fact, if it was a little bit lighter, I'd say it would be the best highlighting concealer of the bunch.

L'oreal Lumi Magique Concealer Pens:

These highlighting concealing pens are nice, but honestly, I'd rather buy one of the other concealers in a lighter shade. The formula is difficult to blend and you definitely need some kind of sponge to help it along. It's quite a dry formula so it cakes up pretty easily. I don't hate them, but I wouldn't buy them again. What I do like though, is that out of the two, one is more yellow toned so the shade is ideal for highlighting the face.

Out of all the concealers, here are my top three:

  • Urban Decay Naked Skin (best all rounder)
  • Maybelline Age Rewind (best for highlighting)
  • Mac Studio Finish (best for spot/precise concealing)

If I had to be pushed to just one, it would of course be the Urban Decay Naked Skin! Did you expect anything else? I just think the formula is amazing and the shade is perfect for me. I'd be pretty happy only using this concealer from now on. It's that good...

What are your favourite concealers?

Thanks for reading,
Avani

  1. I honestly go through phases over which I prefer between the Urban Decay and the Nars concealers however I'm definitely all about the Urban Decay right now! I kind of use the Bourjois as a corrector so not on its own because of the peachy tone and it works for me like that underneath a normal concealer. I really like the Maybelline Age Rewind, though the shade selection is rubbish!

    1. I'll definitely try using the Bourjois concealer as a corrector because the formula is so nice. I agree about the Maybelline concealer shade range. That seems to be a common theme at the drugstore! xx
