Tried and Tested: L'oreal Lumi Magique Highlighting Concealers

If you saw my recent haul then you'll know that I've wanted to try the L'oreal Lumi Magique Highlighting Concealer Pens (£8.49) for a very long time and finally plucked up the courage to give them a go.

I use the word courage because they come in two shades and I had no idea which one to get. I knew that I'd be using them as highlighters as opposed to concealers so I just bought both!

I'll start with the formula which is very light but not that creamy. I find them to be a bit drier in texture than I'm used to and they can be tricky to blend. The best way to blend them is to use a damp sponge and dab it in as opposed to buffing. Initially the finish is also quite dry, but once they start to mix with the oils of the skin, the finish is more natural and less cakey.

As I mentioned earlier, I picked up both shades, '1 Light' and ' 2 Medium.' They are quite similar but '1 Light' leans more yellow and '2 Medium' leans more pink. Both are fantastic for highlighting the face and really brightening under the eyes. The swatches below were taken in daylight.

Shade '2 Medium'

I personally find that layering them works really well for under the eyes. I've tried them different ways and I've learnt that starting with '2 Medium' in the generic triangle under my eyes and finishing with '1 Light' in the inner part works really well to counteract my dark circles and helps create the perfect bright under eye. On a day to day basis, I'll just use the medium shade under the eyes and on the tops of my cheekbones for a more natural look.

The drawbacks are that there are only two shades and you really have to twist the bottom of the pen for the product to come up and you can easily pump up too much product. I'd also say that they are more highlighting than concealing. This works for me but if your looking for something that's really going to cover, you won't get that with this. I do use my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer underneath both of the shades.

Overall, yes they're a little bit dry but once blended into the skin, they work perfectly fine. The colours work well for me but they don't really cater to many other skin tones which is disappointing. Before I repurchase these I definitely want to try other similar products at the drugstore.

L'oreal, you almost hit the nail on head!

Thanks for reading,
Avani

    1. I think they'd be fine for you if you use them for highlighting rather than concealing. If you get both, mixing them works well :) x
