Review: YSL Youth Liberator Foundation

After seeing the beautiful Lily Pebbles wear this foundation in her videos and on her blog, I was very excited to try it. I perused the counters several times and finally managed to get a sample. The Youth Liberator Foundation (£36) contains YSL's famous Youth Liberator Serum and is medium to full coverage. It's supposed to restore your skin's youthful brightness and is their first serum foundation.

I've been trying it for the past week and my verdict; I don't really like it. It pains me so say it because I was extremely excited about this foundation. In theory, it's everything I would want my foundation to be. Unfortunately, in reality, it's not.

My biggest issue with it is that it transfers like crazy! The first time I applied it, I waited for it to set and it just didn't. I was so worried about it transferring onto my clothes that I removed it after about 20 minutes. I tried it again a couple of days later and the same thing happened. This time I left it on for a few hours and whilst it wasn't as bad, I noticed a foundation line on the neckline of my top- luckily I was only wearing pyjamas!

In terms of what the foundation actually looked like on my skin, it was very heavy and a bit cakey. I don't know if I put too much on but either way, it didn't look good. I will keep trying this foundation to see if anything changes but I probably won't buy the full size. It's very expensive and so far, it doesn't match up to my beloved Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation (review here). It also has a pretty strong scent, but it didn't linger on my skin.

If you're interested in this foundation, I think it is worth getting a sample of. I haven't heard of any transfer problems so it probably just doesn't work on my skin. I think this proves that foundations work differently on everyone!

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think?

Thanks for reading,
Avani
