I've been trying out so many drugstore contour palettes lately, that I thought it would be useful to put together a comparison post of everything I've tried.
Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit in Light/Medium
This palette contains three matte shades for all your contouring needs. There's a banana coloured highlighting powder, a bronzer and an ashy medium brown contour shade. The formula is consistently creamy and easy to blend. It does kick up a lot of powder, but it's lovely nonetheless. I tend to use this palette when I'm going the whole nine yards with my makeup.
Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit in Medium/Dark:
This versions formula is as good as the previous one. The shades are perfect for darker skin tones and for once, the contour it actually dark enough. They blend out well and as with the original, last on the skin really nicely.
Maybelline Master Sculpt Contour Kit in Medium/Dark:
Maybelline's palette is a lot more simple, housing a contour and highlighting shade. Don't be fooled by the Medium/Dark shade, the contour is really light. I can only just about get away with it. It has a very soft formula that's incredibly easy to blend. It creates a natural but effective contour.
L'oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette in Light/Medium:
A cream to powder formula that really shines in its lasting power. The shades are quite standard, with the contour powder being nice and ashy. It's a mid toned brown, darker than the Maybelline shade, but not too dark. Easy to blend, and it works well with synthetic brushes.
L'oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette in Medium/Dark:
I have to say, I definitely prefer the other version of this palette as it's more suitable for contouring. The sculpting shade within this one is just too warm toned. It's a shame because the formula is exactly the same.
Out of everything, here are my top picks:
- Best for Beginners: Maybelline Master Sculpt Contour Kit
- Best for Deeper Skin Tones: Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit in Medium/Dark Skin
- Best All Rounder: Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit in Light/Medium
I honestly don't think contouring is going anywhere and the drugstore reflects that. I'm always seeing new palettes and kits crop up here and there. I definitely don't need anymore but let's be honest, when has that ever stopped me?! I'd love to try some high end contour kits so let me know your favourite.
What's your favourite drugstore contouring palette?
Thanks for reading,
