Monthly Roundup: February 2017 + Where I've been

Hello, again. It's been a long time. Seven weeks to be precise. I never intended on taking that long a break, but I definitely needed it. There's something cathartic about taking a step back from something you're a little unsure about.

I've spent the last couple of months figuring out what I want from this blog and what I'm doing with it. I wasn't happy with the content I was producing towards the end of last year and felt generally crap about my blog. At the same time, my mum has been seriously unwell. She still is, but we're not in limbo anymore and somehow that makes everything easier. Taking a longer break meant I was able to spend time with her, work on my blog and still look after my own health.

During my time away, I've had a good think about where I want this blog to go and what to do with it. I love blogging, and I love blogging about beauty. But I'm so much more than that. I'm interested in politics and I'm passionate about mental health and other invisible illnesses. So I'm going to start writing about those things too. LivinginMakeup will very much be a beauty blog, but I also want it to be a place where we can have open discussions about anything and everything. I want to inject more of my personality into this blog.

Instead of doing a monthly favourites post, I'm going to do monthly roundups. They'll still include all my favourite products of the past month, but they'll be more relaxed. I'm hoping to stick to my current schedule of a new post every Monday and Friday. That was something that was really working for me last year. That being said, the next few months are going to be challenging as my mum is still facing a major operation with a long recovery, and I'm obviously going to put that first.

I also want to redesign the blog. I was hoping to get it done during the break but I'm still trying to decide between a few designs. I'm pretty indecisive, that's something you'll learn about me, I'm sure. I recently took the plunge and purchased Photoshop and have started shooting my photos in RAW, so if you notice any weird looking pictures, I'm still getting used to it!

Without sounding corny, I'm excited about blogging again. After months of feeling really down about my blog, I finally feel like I'm climbing out of that rut. I highly recommend taking a break if you've been feeling the same.

What have you been up to since I was last here?

Thanks for reading,
Avani
xoxo
