Brand Focus: L'oreal

It's been a while since I did a Brand Focus so today I thought I'd cover L'oreal. To me, L'oreal is one of the most 'reliable' brands in terms of makeup. Everyone knows and loves it. They have a great blend of traditional and more innovative products. I've tried so many of their products over the years and have been impressed by the majority of them. I'm going to be sharing my personal favourites in this post.

Infallible Fixing Mist:

The Infallible Fixing Mist is a great example of L'oreal bringing out a product that the drugstore is lacking. Essentially, it's a setting spray that increases the longevity of your makeup, much like a primer. The mist is really fine and doesn't squirt you in the face, always an advantage. The spray also takes aways any powdery residue. It's a much more affordable version of the Urban Decay Setting Sprays.

Lumi Magique Highlighting Concealer Pens:

I've included this because whilst they're not my favourite, I use them all the time and do quite like them. The concealer pens don't offer much in terms of coverage and are definitely more suited to highlighting. I use it under the eyes in a typical triangle shape as well as down the bridge of the nose and Cupid's bow. I have both of the two shades available and to be honest, I'm not sure they'd match anyone perfectly. The shade 1 Light leans more yellow and the shade 2 Medium leans more pink. I use the yellow shade in the generic triangle under my eyes and the pink shade in the inner corners to really brighten the area. The formula layers really well, but it does take quite a bit of effort to blend. I've found a damp sponge works best.

Infallible Sculpting Palettes:

These little contour kits have fast become a favourite in my ever growing contouring collection. L'oreal has two shades on offer, Light/Medium and Medium/Dark. Despite having medium skin, I much prefer the Light/Medium shade as it's ashier and cooler in tone. When contouring, I always recommend ashy shades as they mimic the natural shadows on your face the best. The formula is cream to powder and I find it blends seamlessly. You can get a really sharp, yet natural contour. I will admit that I never use the highlight side. However, I wouldn't hesitate buying the palette again because the contour shade is pretty perfect for me.

Brow Artist Genius Kit:

I really love this brow kit. It houses two shades, one powder and one wax. You're supposed to use the wax first, then apply the powder. The wax is perfectly fine, but I personally prefer powder formula's in general. The powder side is just excellent. I have the shade Medium to Dark which is spot on. It's really ashy and looks very natural through the brows. I like how powdery it is, as it makes it easy to mimic brow hairs. I also love the fact that it comes with a mini angled brush and spoolie. It makes the whole process much quicker when everything is in one place.

Perfection Brow Artist Plumping Brow Gel:

If you try one thing from this post, make it this. This is one of the best products I've tried for eyebrows. It's a coloured gel that has tiny fibres which mimic brow hairs. It's a great one stop product. It's very easy to use, so long as you take off the majority of the gel on a tissue first! The wand is teeny tiny so you can be quite precise. The lasting power is quite incredible as it lasts all day, even in humid conditions. I have the shade Medium/Dark which is perfect for my dark hair.

La Palette Nude Rose:

Whilst I've only tried the one shade variant, I believe the others are quite similar. This was the first proper eyeshadow palette the brand released. They do have other smaller palettes, but this houses 10 shades in various finishes. I really recommend it for beginners as the formula is soft and sheer but build-able. It's so easy to work with and the combination of shades is lovely.

Colour Riche Mono Eyeshadows:

Now these single eyeshadows are brilliant. The range has so many finishes and colours that you can really have your pick. The selection can be a bit confusing so I'd recommend going swatch crazy in store! I've tried a few and my two favourites are Pin Up Pink which is a sheer shimmery pink gold that makes your eyes glow if that makes sense. It does something so special to the eyes that it's hard to describe. My other favourite is Macaron Vanille, a matte peach toned cream which is perfect for highlighting the brow bone. Since it's slightly peachy it stops whatever I'm using on my eyes from going ashy. The formula of this shade in particular is actually incredible. It's so pigmented and smooth. The word buttery comes to mind, but that doesn't do it any justice.

Colour Riche Lip Liners:

I'm relatively new to lip liners and have only tried one from this particular range, but I'm impressed. The formula is creamy and doesn't drag or pull at the lips. I have the shade Berry Blush which is a soft berry pink and a great everyday colour. I am looking forward to trying more shades.

Rouge Caresse Lipsticks:

As a self confessed lipstick addict, I'm ashamed to admit I've not tried many L'oreal lipsticks! I'll be righting that wrong soon enough! I'm so surprised the Rouge Caresse range is still around because I never hear anyone talk about them. They're a staple in my collection because they're sheer and almost balm like. They do offer decent pigmentation though. I love the shade Rebel Red which is perfect for anyone who wants to do red lips, without the maintenance and intensity.

I really love L'oreal makeup. They sort of set the bar in terms of drugstore makeup and I have to say, the shade range is definitely impressive. I've not tried their foundations, but I know the shade selection is vast.

I'm also desperate to try the new Gold Obsession range! It's been all over Twitter and Instagram and I think if the products are good, it could be a real game changer. Gold lipstick, need I say more?!

What's your favourite L'oreal product?

Thanks for reading,
Avani

  1. I love their foundations! True Match, Lumi Magique and Infallible Matte are all go-to foundations for me, they match really well with my Indian skin, last all day and give my skin a flawless but still real look. I always get compliments when I use a L'Oreal foundation. Love their Colour Riche shadows too and their Superliner! Thanks for sharing, need to check out that mist, I use UD All Nighter religiously xxx
