Tried and Tested: Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette has been top of my wishlist for months and I finally got it for Christmas. I've been putting it to the test and it's even better than I thought it would be. Warning: get your self a cup of tea, it's going to be a long one!

The palette is £45 and contains 16 eyeshadows, including two larger highlight shades. The eyeshadows come in mix of matte, shimmer and satin finishes. Each eyeshadow is infused with cocoa powder and the palette itself is shaped like a chocolate bar, hence the name. The eyeshadows smell exactly like milk chocolate. It's delicious.

I'll go through the swatches row by row first and then I'll get onto the review. All the swatches have been taken in natural lighting with no primer. 

First Row:

Left to Right- Gilded Ganache, White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Black Forest Truffle and Triple Fudge

Second Row:

Left to Right- Salted Caramel, Marzipan, Semisweet, Strawberry Bon-Bon, Candied Violet and Amaretto

Third Row:

Left to Right- Hazelnut, Creme Brule, Haute Chocolate, Cherry Cordial and Champagne Truffle

The matte eyeshadows are just dreamy. They are everything matte eyeshadows should be; creamy, pigmented and easy to blend. I am so impressed that Too Faced have included lots of shades of brown. There's a good mix of cool and warm tones and you have all the basic mattes you could want except a black. I much prefer the mattes in this palette than those in the Urban Decay Naked palettes. First of all, there are more and second of all, the texture is much better. The Urban Decay ones are very good, but the Too Faced ones are better. My favourite matte shade is on the second row of the palette and is called 'Salted Caramel.' It's a very warm brown with an orange undertone. It is beautiful in the crease and I can see myself using this all summer. 

The shimmery eyeshadows are buttery, buttery, buttery. They have a gorgeous sheen to them but they aren't obnoxiously shimmery or glittery. They blend beautifully and again, the shade range is brilliant. You've got all your neutrals but a few pops of colour here and there. My favourite shimmery shade is 'Marzipan' which is a peachy pink. It's perfect all over the lid and works particularly well with 'Salted Caramel' thrown in the crease.

'Candied Violet' is the shade that really took me by surprise. In the pan, and even in the swatch, it looks pretty underwhelming. However, when used wet, all over the lid, it is stunning. It's a very intense reflective purple that's bright yet deep at the same time. It is truly gorgeous and I'm planning on doing an entire makeup look based on this shadow. 

I really love the two highlight shades, 'White Chocolate' (matte) and 'Champagne Truffle' (shimmery). The pans are larger than the others and I think both are flattering for different uses. 'White Chocolate' is the perfect brow bone highlight and 'Champagne Truffle' is great for the inner corners. 

The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette is expensive, but you do get 16 eyeshadows. That's four more than the Naked Palettes which are £37 each. I think I may actually prefer this to my original Naked Palette. It just seems more versatile. There's a better selection of colours and finishes and you could even use this on the face. You could contour with 'Milk Chocolate,' depending on your skin tone, and highlight the high points of the face with 'White Chocolate.' You could even mix some of the cooler matte shades for the brows! It really is a do it all palette and in my opinion, it's most definitely worth the hefty price tag. 

I do however have two things I'd change. Firstly, I'd prefer it if the names where printed onto the palette as opposed to the plastic overlay. It's a bit of a faff to keep the overlay sheet and take it out every time I use the palette. I would also much prefer it if the packaging was a tin closure like the Naked 3 palette. The Too Faced palette has a magnetic closure which, in my opinion, isn't as secure. They're only small complaints, but I like to be honest and those are the things I'd change. 

To sum up this very long post, I adore this palette. It's everything an eyeshadow palette should be; pigmented, smooth and long lasting.
