Monthly Roundup: August 2017
It's about time I did one of these. My lack of blogging has meant I've only done two 'monthly favourite' style posts this year. I normally do them every month so that's really strange to me! Anyway, let's just get straight into it, because I have a lot to share.
Illamasqua Look Fantastic Eyeshadow Palette:
This was in my LookFantastic 2016 Advent Calendar and I have been loving it recently. It's the first very product I've tried from the brand and it's been a great introduction. The four shades are creamy and soft and pigmented. They blend beautifully and I love this particular colour combination. The red toned matte shade is just perfection. It's so flattering and looks amazing softly blending into the crease. I think this is going to be a staple for Autumn.
L'oreal Colour Riche Mono Eyeshadow in Pin Up Pink:
I've had this for such a long time and I still love it. I've been using in combination with the next product and it's just the easiest eyeshadow ever. I love using this in summer because it's minimal but adds a little somethin' somethin' to the eyes. Don't let the pink put you off. It's a sheer peachy pink with flecks of gold that catch the light. It's very brightening and makes your eyes look so big and beautiful.
Natural Collection Eyeshadow in Milk Chocolate:
This is a matte brown everyone should own. It's simple. It's easy to use. It goes with everything. I love using a fluffy brush and blending it all over the lid and in the crease. It's such a subtle shade that you almost don't notice it, but it just pulls everything together when you're wearing minimal makeup. I love using it with Pin Up Pink too. Blend the two together on a fluffy brush like the Mac 217 or Zoeva 228 and apply it to the lid and crease for a subtle everyday shade. It really suits my skin tone, but I think it would look particularly good on fair skin.
KIKO Creamy Lipstick in Gossamer Emotion 108:
This is the only lipstick I've been wearing recently. It's a natural medium pink with subtle shimmer that's very flattering. It's the perfect everyday shade and isn't all that dissimilar to Mac's Plumful, but it's more wearable in my opinion.
Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Serum:
Words can't really describe how much I love this hair serum. I apply a few drops to damp hair and it's magic. The formula is light and non greasy and gives incredible shine. The best thing about it though, is that is really speeds up drying time. Somehow when I use this, my hair dries so much faster. I have very very thick wavy hair which needs all the help it can get. Using this, I can wash my hair, air dry it and have the perfect beachy waves.
The Handmaid's Tale:
Oh my goodness. I don't think I've ever been this hooked and unsettled by a TV show before. It's based on the dystopia novel of the same name and imagines a future where America is overthrown by right wing extremists who rule by the Old Testament. It's very unnerving, given the current political climate and yet I think everyone should watch it. It's brutal and one of those shows you can't stop thinking about. You'd think it would be impossible for something like that to happen, but honestly it's entirely believable. The acting is amazing and Elizabeth Moss deserves an Emmy for her portrayal as Offred.
The Goldbergs:
On a very different note is The Goldbergs. I fricking love The Goldbergs. It's based on the family of the show's creator and their lives growing up in the 80s. It's hilarious and Beverly Goldberg is my new hero. She's the OG smother and I kind of want to be just like her when I grow up.
What have you been loving recently?
Avani
xoxo
